SIPPIO was born from the idea of automating, simplifying and utilizing best of breed technology to build our platform. To voice enable Microsoft Teams, our architects and design engineers looked towards the native capabilities that Azure provides to support collaboration.
Native to Azure, Microsoft Teams was the first service to be built as a Microsoft 365 service. This created an innate and natural relationship between the solutions for compliance, security and user privacy. It was an easy and logical decision for SIPPIO to be built entirely in Azure.
SIPPIO implemented a highly available and meshed platform across 8 different Azure regions to provide quality voice services leveraging industry leading, certified session border controllers (SBC). This ensures the platform is geographically distributed across multiple Microsoft facilities designed to run 24x7x365.
Azure data centers are designed to protect operations from power failure, physical intrusion, and network outages. All of the data centers comply with industry standards for physical security and availability. The facilities are managed, monitored, and administered entirely by Microsoft operations personnel. Each paired data center is located at least 300 miles apart in order to provide failover in the event of a large-scale regional disaster.
Customers leveraging SIPPIO are provided with a solution that resides entirely in the Microsoft Azure environment. This increases security, ensures compliance and reduces risk of vulnerability created when portions of the solution are broken out and removed from their native state into local, or on earth, data centers.
SIPPIO ensures all voice traffic remains in a protected network and will not go over the internet for the SBC intra-communication. Using the Azure backend network to connect to Microsoft Teams with restricted IP-based rules limits public internet exposure and provides the lowest latency available. Further, each SIPPIO stack dynamically expands and is split across different availability zones to dramatically increase uptime.
Solutions built outside of Azure or in a private data center are inherently more at risk due to traffic moving across the public internet which adds hops causing latency, points of failure and increases potential threats. The concept of voice being more ‘secure’ on earth is a fallacy promoted by integrators looking to build solutions selling boxes and bodies because all carrier services natively run in the cloud.
Utilizing Azure security tools and services, SIPPIO continuously monitors all components for threats, vulnerabilities, and security risk. The platform is collocated and backboned across all regions to provide reliability, redundancy and resiliency with failover certified by AudioCodes and Microsoft.
With Tier-D compliant security, this ensures full encryption for native routing which includes FedRAMP, or federal government data centers. Microsoft conducts a yearly internal audit followed by an external audit to complies with these certifications and standards: ISO 27001, ISO 27018, IEC 27001, SSAE16 SOC 1 and SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, PIA and EU Model Clauses (EUMC).
